Defensive Resource
What it is
A defensive resource is the precise, often only, move that saves an inferior or seemingly lost position — a counter-tactic, a fortress, a perpetual, or a cold-blooded consolidation that neutralizes the attack.
When to use it
Use it when you are under fire: your king is being hunted, you are down material and need counterplay, or the opponent has a threat you must meet in the most exact way.
How to use it
Do not panic and do not play the first move that stops one threat. Identify every threat, then look for the single move that meets all of them — a defensive check, an interposition that also attacks, or a simplifying exchange that douses the fire.
